Describe your college search process and how you ended up at Quincy University?

My college search process was not too hard because I knew that I wanted to stay close to home. I am very family orientated and knew that I would not be able to handle straying too far away from my home of Pittsfield, IL. I had relatives that were employed as coaches at Quincy University and was able to visit the campus regularly in a causal setting. I fell in love with it. I was able to be close with my family and their nursing program was the best I had heard of. I could not be happier with the choice i made to attend QU/BRCN. I am in my second semester and could not be more in love with it.

What have you found to be the benefits of a private college/university?

Due to QU being a private university the students are enrolled in courses that a public college would not normally require. These electives help to culture us and expose us to classes that we would typically not venture to enroll in otherwise. I have learned a ton from my literature courses and my religion classes – and to my extreme surprise, I thoroughly enjoy them. Although we are a catholic university, our religion classes explain the beliefs of all western faiths. I have been exposed to so much more cultural knowledge due to attending a private university, something that I would not have done for myself without being prompted to do so.

How did you find out about PICU? How did you find out about the PICU scholarship?

When I was in the process of transferring to Quincy University from John Wood Community College my advisor at QU encouraged me to apply for the PICU scholarship. She spoke very highly of it and thought that I would make a great candidate.

What advice to you have for current community college students beginning their transfer process?

COLLEGE VISITS. Every college looks great on paper, you have to visit to know for sure though. I know that it sounds cheesy, but you will know which college is right for you as soon as you step foot on campus. Do what is right for you, do not follow your friends or your significant other. I know that it can be kind of scary switching your life up after two years, but you will find your people at your transfer school. College is your time to find out who you truly are, take advantage of it. This will be your home for the next few years, make sure you really love it.
